ENGLISH VERSION OF OGOH-OGOH BALI

Ogoh-ogoh is a masterpiece sculpture in Balinese culture depicting personality of  Bhuta Kala. In the teachings of Hindu Dharma, Bhuta Kala represents universe strength (Bhu) and time (Kala) is not measurable and undeniable.

In the embodiment of the statue in question, Bhuta Kala portrayed as large and frightening, usually in the form of giants.

Apart form giant, Ogoh-ogoh are often depicted in the form of creatures that live in Mayapada, Heaven and Hell, such as: dragon, elephant, eagle, demons, goddesses, and even God. In the main function, as a representation of Bhuta Kala, Ogoh-ogoh made ​​before Nyepi day and paraded around the village at the evening of Pangrupukan day, the day before Nyepi Day.

SUBALI  SUGRIWA

Subali is the name of a king Vanara in the Ramayana epic. He is the brother of Sugriva, allies of Sri Rama. Once a dispute between the two Vanara is currently fighting an angel named Tara. In a dispute that Sugriva defeat, so he should be expelled from the Forest Kiskinda. Later in exile Sugriva met Sri Rama and Lakshmana. Sugriva finally asked for help from Sri Rama to face his brother.

Off they went into the forest of Kiskinda to face Subali. In the fight, Subali eventually died at the hands of Sri Rama, the prince of Ayodhya. Subali also known as a white bloody priest who lives on a top mountain of Sunyapringga.

CALONARANG

Told that was a widow ruler Calonarang black magic that often damage crops and cause farmers coming plague. He has a daughter named Ratna Manggali, which though beautiful but can not find a husband because people were afraid of his mother. Because of the difficulties faced by his daughter, Calonarang angry and he intended to take revenge by kidnapping a young girl. The girl he brought to a temple to be sacrificed to Goddess Durga. The next day was a great flood hit the village and many people died. The plague was sproud out  everywhere.

ABIMANIU PRALAYA

On the thirteenth day Bharatayudha, the Kauravas challenged the Pandavas to break a circular battle formation known as Chakrawyuha. The Pandavas accept the challenge since Krishna and Arjuna knew how to break the various formations.

However, on that day, Krishna and Arjuna was busy fighting with the army of Samsaptaka. Therefore, the Pandavas have accepted the challenge, they have no choice but to try to use Abimaniu who stil  young, who have knowledge of how to break the formation Chakrawyuha but do not know how to get out of it. To ensure that Abimaniu not be trapped in these formations, the Pandava brothers decided that they and their allies will break formation with Abimaniu and helped the boy out of the formation.

On the big day, Abimaniu uses cleverness to penetrate the formation. Pandava brothers and allies attempt to follow in the formation, but they were intercepted by Jayadratha, king of Sindhu taking Shiva's grace to be able to withstand the Pandavas except Arjuna for one day only. Abimaniu left alone to fend Kauravas army.

Abimaniu ruthlessly killed several knights who approached him, including Duryodhana's son named Laksmana. After watching his favorite son was killed, Duryodhana was furious and ordered all troops to attack Abimaniu Kauravas. Having failed to destroy armor Abimaniu, on the advice of Drona, Karna destroys Abimaniu from behind the arc. Then the train was destroyed, coachman and his horse was killed, and the rest of the gun is wasted. Son Dushasana tried to bare-hand fighting with Abimaniu. But regardless of the rules of war, the Kauravas attacked Abimaniu simultaneously. Abimaniu able to survive until the blade broke and the wheels he used as a shield was broken. Finally, Abimaniu eventually killed in the deadly formation.

CHANDRABHIRAWA

It is said that when a young Salya named Narasoma go wandering for refusing an arranged marriage by her father. On the way he meets a giant named Resi Bagaspati Brahmin who want to make it as law. Bagaspati claimed to have a beautiful daughter named Pujawati Narasoma dreams met and fell in love with him. Narasoma reject an Bagaspati application because it believes Pujawati giant must also flawless.

Then they fought, Narasoma  could be defeated and taken  by Bagaspati to his residence at the Hermitage Argabelah. Once there, Narasoma Pujawati surprised to know that it turned out really pretty. He also changed his mind and is willing to marry Bagaspati. Narasoma the proud feeling of disgust has a giant law. Pujawati innocent deliver it to Bagaspati. Bagaspati told her daughter was choosing between a father or husband. Apparently Pujawati choose a husband. Bagaspati proud to hear it and rename Pujawati be Setyawati.

Narasoma Setyawati told that his father was ready to die rather than interfere with their domestic harmony. Bagaspati willing to be killed as long as Setyawati not to co-wife. Narasoma willing. He then stabbed Bagaspati but does not work. Bagaspati realize that having named Chandrabhirawa miracle science. He also bequeathed to the Narasoma science first. Narasoma then stab Bagaspati elbow, the point of weakness. This time Bagaspati killed instantly. Narasoma then brought back Setyawati to Mandraka.

SHIWA NANDINI

In the Hindu religion, there are three main gods called Tri Murti, namely Brahma, Vishnu, and Shiva. Among the three deities Lord Shiva is considered the supreme god. Lord Shiva has the power to restore everything in the universe to the original elements (pralina). Lord Shiva occupies the middle of the color direction five colors. He was armed with Padma weapon and riding bulls named Nandini.

GUGURNYA PRABU SALYA

After Karna was killed at the hands of Arjuna on the 17th day, Salya was appointed as the new commander of the Kauravas. The story of his death contained in the ninth section Salyaparwa Mahabharata. He was told after being appointed by Duryodhana as commander of the Kauravas, Salya go to war using weapons Chandrabhirawa Rudrarohastra with science. Krishna also asked Yudhishthira famous shrine to be forward facing Salya. Rudrarohastra and Chandrabhirawa successfully defeated. He then fired toward Salya Kalimahosaddha heirloom. Heirlooms turned into a spear that shot through the chest of Salya. Finally Salya was killed by Yudhishthira who is the reincarnation of the sage of science Chandrabhirawa Rsi  Bagaspati the actual owners.

After Salya killed, Setyawati and aides called Sugandika follow into battle and committed suicide using a dagger.

CELULUK

Celuluk are minions of Calonarang who spread terror with his black magic. Celuluk portrayed as a sinister woman to form a distinctive skull plus fangs and long, sharp teeth. The figure celuluk be able to put the fear of those who look at him. In Bali, Celuluk often regarded as the incarnation of human beings who are practicing black magic with evil purpose.

RAHWANA

In Hindu mythology, Ravana is the main character as opposed to Rama  in the Ramayana epic. He is the king of the kingdom of Lanka in the form of giants. After getting a gift from the gods due diligence in doing penance meditation, Ravana find his grandfather, Sumali and requested authority to lead the army. Then he launched an attack towards Alengka. Famous Ravana very powerful with Dasamukha spell that he had not even the gods can not even match.

Because of his power that Ravana became arrogant and violent until one day he was captivated by the beauty of the goddess Sita, the wife of Sri Rama. He also bear kidnaps Sita and brought to Lanka. Ultimately Ravana was killed at the hands of Sri Rama in the battle to recapture Sita.

KUMBAKARNA

Kumbhakarna was Ravana's brother, from Alengka Pura. Kumbhakarna was a giant of a very high body and terrible faced, but it is an good officer and has tremendous power. He also often trying to revive her brother about wrongdoing. He has a weakness, namely sleep for six months, during which he was serving his sleep he was disable to exert its power.

When Ravana and Kumbhakarna hold tapa, Lord Brahma appeared as pleased with their diligence in worship. Lord Brahma gave them the opportunity to apply. When the time came to apply Kumbhakarna, he intends to say "Indraasan" meaning the throne of Lord Indra in Swargaloka. Knowing that the Goddess Saraswati rushed into his mouth to bend his tongue. Therefore, when he was about to say "Indraasan", said that it said was "Neendrasan" which means eternal sleep. Brahma granted his request. Feeling affection to his brother Ravana asked Brahma Gods cancel gift. Lord Brahma did not deign to cancel the gift, but the gift of ease so that he ended up just Kumbhakarna sleep for six months and up for six months.

In the battle against the Sri Rama, Kumbhakarna killed many Vanara troops and wounded many options soldiers like Anggada, Sugriva, Hanuman and Nila. With the magic arrows of Rama decided to cut Kumbakarna hands. But with his both feet, Kumbhakarna can still stomp Vanara army. Rama then cut his legs with an arrow. Without hands and feet, Kumbhakarna can still roll-roll and grind his Vanara army. Looking mighty Kumbhakarna, Rama was impressed and amazed. But he did not want Kumbakarna tormented for too long. Rama finally releasing his last arrow. Arrows separating the head from the body and bring Kumbakarna flying and falling in downtown Alengka

DEWI DURGHA

According to Hindu belief, Goddess Durgha was the wife of Lord Shiva. Goddess Durgha usually portrayed as a beautiful woman who has a lot of hands and holding many weapons with mudra position. Durgha regarded as the mother goddess of the universe that can defeat the demon and in a state of anger can defeat another god though.

LEBUR KAMSA

Kamsa was a king who ruled in the land of Mathura. He was a strong and powerful king but has a cruel and ruthless nature. Kamsa had a sister named Devaki. He married his sister with Vasudeva. Kamsa celebrate her sister's wedding with much fanfare but suddenly heard a voice from heaven, that one day he will die at the hands of  son of Devaki. Panicked, Kamsa had throw Vasudeva and Devaki into prison. Each time Devaki gave birth, Kamsa immediately killed her baby. It happened up to six times. In the seventh pregnancy, Vasudeva's first wife was named Rohini came to visit. Miraculously, the content of Devaki’s pregnancy moved to the womb of Rohini.

At the birth of the eighth baby, suddenly there came tia divine help. All of Prison doors were opened and all the guards were fast asleep. Vasudeva was easily carrying her baby away to his friend that is deposited with Nanda and his wife Yasoda. After that Vasudeva took the baby girl child Nandagopa back to jail.

The next morning, Kamsa came to the prison to kill a newborn baby Devaki. When he saw the baby girl turned out, he was won over prediction gods.

The Babies who born by Devaki and Rohini respectively grown into a young man named Balarama and Krishna. Both were raised by Nanda and Yasoda couples in a rural environment. Kamsa finally knew the existence of both. They were invited to Mathura to attend the festivities.

When they arrived in Mathura, Kamsa tried to kill them. But the truly divine prophecy come true. In a fight, it is Krishna who killed Kamsa.

KRESNA DUTA

Ambassador Krishna literally means a person who is appointed as envoy. Told after completing punishment Pandavas defeat the Kauravas in the game of dice, the Pandavas sent Sri Krishna in order to meet the Kauravas to convey that the Pandavas had completed his sentence, and also asked for the restoration of rights deprived Pandavas.

Once Krishna arrived in front of the Kauravas and expressed purpose of his, beyond a doubt, pleased to meet the demands of the Pandavas Duryodhana and promised to restore all their rights. It is delivered in the presence of the authorities of his country, the gods, and father-mother who witnessed the meeting.

After the gods, rulers,his  father and mother left , Duryodhana suddenly take it back his words. Moreover he vowed not to give up anything that was in his hand, though it is not right, and defend it to the death. Hearing that Krishna became furious. His anger changed into a terrible giant form of Krishna that is ready to destroy anything he wants. Luckily there is a god who returns to earth and calm Krishna. Krishna back into human form and immediately left the Kauravas.

BHIMA MEMBUNUH BHAKASURA

Narrated after passing Hidimbawana, Bhima and his brothers and his mother arrived in a town called Ekacakra. There they boarded Brahmin family home. On a day when Bhima and her mother were alone, while the four brothers went begging, Brahmin landlord informed him that there was a giant who was terrorizing the town Ekacakra. At the request of the villagers, the giant stopped plaguing the city, but rather the entire population of the city is required to offer good food and a person each week. Now, the Brahmin family who provides shelter for the Pandavas whose turn it is to present one of his family members. Feeling indebted to the kindness of the brahmin family, Dewi Kunti, mother of the Pandavas, Bhima said that he gave up that would kill the giants.

On the appointed day, Bhima brings a load of food to the cave Bhakasura. There he spent the foods that should be offered to the giants. After that, Bhima calling for a duel with the giant. Bhakasura who felt humiliated, angry and hit Bhima. Immediately there was a fierce battle. After a long battle, Bhima crush Bhakasura body like squeezing a cane. Then he dragged the body to the gate Bhakasura Ekacakra. By means of Bhima, the city Ekacakra quiet back to normal.

BHATARA KALA MENGEJAR RARE KUMARA

Kala Tattwa recounted in the book, when Lord Shiva was a walk by the sea goddess Uma, "semen" Lord Shiva dripping into the sea when he saw the calf Goddess Uma because of wind reveals the fabric of the Goddess. Lord Shiva wanted to invite Goddess Uma to sex, but the goddess refused because the behavior of Lord Shiva who is not content with a behavior deities in heaven. Finally they both go back to heaven. Lord Shiva semen dripping into the sea eventually discovered by Lord Brahma and Lord Vishnu. The seeds are then given a mantra japa. Then the giant went to meet Lord Shiva and the Goddess Uma. When I got it in Siwaloka, Lord Shiva did not want to admit it as a giant child. Before he acknowledged the giant, first he had to cut the long fangs in order to see the parents form completely. Finally, these requirements can be met. The giant parents can see their form completely. The giant is blessed by Lord Shiva and given the title of Lord Kala. In honor of his birth, Lord Shiva gave a boon that Lord Kala may take some people born on the day "Tumpek Wayang" and take the streets at noon on that day. Incidentally his brother, the god Kumara born on Tumpek puppet. After given a boon by Lord Shiva, Lord Kala Rare Kumara chase to eat it. DASAMUKHA

At the end of the battle with the forces of Rama, Ravana had told Dasamukha spell that made him a giant with a terrible ten heads. Handed a lot and has a very high morbidity. ARIMBA ARIMBI

At the time of serving his Pandavas exile, they wandered through the various places and through the thick forest. Until one day, they arrived in a forest named Hidimbawana. This is where they met with raksasi named Arimbi. Arimbi given the job of his brother Arimba to bring human flesh, but when the encounter Bhima, who was sitting in the middle of the forest, he fell in love and did not have the heart to kill him. He also turned into a beautiful woman, tall, dark, and approached Bhima. When it comes to killing Arimba Bhima, he was furious at his brother and intends to kill and Arimbi. BHIMA MEMBUNUH DURYODHANA

Duryodhana is the main antagonist in the story Mahabharata. He is the incarnation of Satan Kali. He was born to Drestarastra and Gandhari. Duryodhana is the eldest among the one hundred Kauravas. he is known to be very cunning and ruthless, although to be honest character, he is easily influenced sedition because it is not accustomed to think long and spoiled by her parents.

Because incitement Shakuni, the crafty uncle and a sharp tongue, he and his brothers would like to start a fight with the Pandavas. In Bhāratayuddha war, he was defeated by Bhima on the eighteenth day of the battle because his thigh was hit with Gada.

RANGDA DAN CELULUK

Rangda is the queen of the leak (the embodiment of the people who are studying black magic)) in the mythology of Bali. Rangda have a sinister form with bulging eyes, disheveled hair thick, large fangs and teeth and a tongue decorated with items fireball lit. Rangda synonymous with people who use black magic. Rangda word comes from the ancient Javanese language means widow Randa. In the Balinese belief that Celuluk minions. Celuluk regarded as disciples of Rangda is being studied for the purpose of disrupting the lives of black people.

BHATARA YAMA

Lord Yama is the guardian deity of Hell in Hindu religion and buddha. Lord Yama is a manifestation of Brahman as the god of the afterlife holds, the Chief Justice who tried the spirits of the dead, to consider whether the spirit deserve heaven or otherwise, gets hell.

Yama the god is depicted as an old man on a throne ruling the afterlife, has two faces that are not seemingly all at once. The face is grim and creepy looks by the spirit of people whose lives are full of good deeds.

GERANYAM

Once the family lineage Leak on Gianyar, Bali, will exalt science intend to seek the victim of his own family. DUKUH SILADERI

Once in the village of Karang Buncing there was a man named I Wayan Bhuyar, he was an alcoholic and a gambler. One day he heard the news that there kawi mount a beautiful girl named Kusuma Sari. Then, Ki Dukuh Siladeri sent his men to form a variety of wild animals such as tigers, crocodiles, snakes, and so on, to rescue his daughter once gave lessons to Wayan Buyar.

Not accept his defeat he reported to his teacher called Dayu Datu. Wayan Buyar asked for help from his teacher to avenge her hurt to Ki Dukuh Siladeri and his daughter. Because Wayan Buyar is his favorite disciple, Datu Dayu finally sent to kill Ki Dukuh Siladeri. Ni Klinyar transform itself into Celuluk Ki Dukuh Siladeri before heading home. Creepy-faced Celuluk terrorized the residence Ki Dukuh Siladeri with evil magic. However, the miracle Ki Hamlet can easily defeat them. Celuluk was finally restored to his human form the Ni Klinyar and lifted his black magic so that he can not change again into Celuluk.
